Speech Based Packages

I have completed listening diaries on several different types of shows for example news shows to comedy shows, this was to see how the shows were laid out and to try and work out if radio shows had a set structure. Once I had listened to a few radio shows I had a rough idea of how I would want my radio show to sound like. It will be based similar to a news programme as it will include the same sort of things for example vox pops, interviews and other things. The main difference between a comedy show and a news show is how much more organised and prepared news shows seem compared to comedy shows which was just constant talking and chatting which felt like there was no real direction of the show and felt like it what they were doing wasn't as prepared as a news or other informative programme would be.

In the UK there are three different types, Public, Private and community they all have very different target audiences. For example Radio channels like Capital play the most up to date music and chart music which obviously appeals to the youth of today as they want to keep as up to date as they can with the latest music. Also these programmes hold competitions with prizes that would be hard for the audience to get hold of on there own for example tickets for sold out concerts or a chance to go to an exclusive party.

Community
Community radio is run mostly by groups of independent radio producers that have started a radio off their own back. Community radio is set up in a community and is payed for using donations and also other things such as fund raising and things along those lines. A lot of community radio stations are run by students who are setting them up so they can get some experience in the business for when they try to break into the professional business and get a job.

Public
Public radio such as BBC1 are used often for such things as weather, traffic reports and news. public is payed for by paying a sum of £2.11 per month. The BBC run lots of different radio stations that are all targeted at different people and are also very culturally divers for example you can get BBC Asian Network, this shows that they are trying to provide for everyone.

Private
Private radio is the most commonly listened to radio as it is the radio which is played in most cars, bars, households and many other places across the world. Radio is one of the best ways to promote anything in this day and age for example a new product or a new song. A radio station can promote new songs or up and coming artist simply by playing the song on their show. Private radio is payed for by competitions and advertisements.

The UK has a very popular radio scene with stations ranging from Kerrang which is a rock/metal radio station to Gaydio a nation wide gay radio station.
